It\u2019s what the guy you bought it from said, and it sure seemed like he knew what he was talking about. However, you\u2019re a bit of a greenhorn when it comes to RV jargon, so it was almost as if he was speaking in another language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sure, you\u2019ve done a bit of research, and you\u2019re doing more now; but it\u2019s likely that you\u2019re going to need some help when it comes to learning about the ins and outs of your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rvroofmagic.com\/about.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">RV rubber roof.<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube aligncenter wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"RV Roof Magic One Coat Never a Primer Needed\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uabl0NkOBa0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Making Sure That Roof Is Rubber<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first\nstep is to make sure your RV roof really is made of rubber. The easy way to do\nthis is to consult your RV\u2019s manual. The manual will tell you that you either\nhave an EPDM RV roof (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) or a TPO roof (Thermal\nPoly Olefin). After seeing what EPDM and TPO stand for, it sure makes you thank\nthe heavens for acronyms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019ve\nlost or never received your RV owner\u2019s manual, it\u2019s no worry. You can typically\ntell the difference between an EPDM and TPO RV roof with a simple eye and touch\ntest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A TPO roof\ntypically looks shinier than an EPDM roof and feels like a swimming pool liner.\nAlso, a TPO roof comes with heat-welded seams. As for an EPDM roof, it looks\nand feels exactly like the material of a black inner tube and is cemented\ntogether instead of heat-welded. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TPO roofs\nare available in a variety of colors, although they usually come in white,\nwhile EPDM roofs are typically only available in black or white but are far more\ncommonly white because white reflects heat much better. The surface of EPDM\nroofs is more matte, while the surface of TPO roofs is shinier and slicker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Essentially,\nif your RV rubber roof seems very rubbery, then it\u2019s likely an EPDM roof. If it\nseems more like a plastic, then it\u2019s likely a TPO roof.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One last\ntrick, in case you\u2019re still having trouble. The flashing boots on TPO roofs\nalmost always have \u201cTPO\u201d stamped onto them.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Benefits of a Rubber RV Roof<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the primary\nbenefits of a rubber RV roof is its cost. Rubber roofs are much more\ncost-effective than other types of roofs like aluminum or fiberglass. Also,\nrubber roofs weigh less than fiberglass and aluminum roofs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps most\nimportant of all: rubber roofs on RV\u2019s are extremely low maintenance. Rubber\nroofs require very little if any care. Especially if it\u2019s been coated with RV\nRoof Magic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rubber roofs\nalso provide your RV with a long-lasting, durable material and are usually laid\nin a single piece. This means fewer seams in your roof. Fewer seams mean fewer\nplaces for water and other hazards to seep under the roof and damage your RV.\nAlso, modern rubber is not damaged by the sun\u2019s UV rays so it can last for up\nto 50 years or for even longer! With that said, many rubber roofed RV\u2019s from\nthe 70s still have their same rubber roofs. \n\nBecause they\u2019re so durable, rubber roofs are\nalso able to withstand high winds and hail damage. Another distinct advantage\nof rubber roofs for RV\u2019s is that they\u2019re easy to seal and repair if they ever\nhappen to become damaged. Repairs of rubber roofs tend to be fast, easy, and\ncheap. Typically, all that\u2019s required to repair the rubber roof on your RV is a\ntube of liquid rubber.
